Anna Paquin Joins The Cast of Sarah Polley’s “Alias Grace”

The upcoming adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s historical novel Alias Grace now has even more star power on its side. Anna Paquin, star of films like X-Men: The Last Stand and HBO’s popular series True Blood, has joined the cast of the six-hour miniseries.

CTV had the news. Paquin will star alongside Zachary Levi (Chuck, Heroes Reborn) and Sarah Gadon (11.22.63, Murdoch Mysteries). The series will be directed by Mary Harron (American Psycho), and was written by Canada native Sarah Polley (Away From Her, Take This Waltz). Polley is also serving as an executive producer.

Alias Grace is inspired by the 1843 murders of Thomas Kinnear (Levi) and his house keeper, Nancy Montgomery (Paquin). Grace Marks (Gadon) and James McDermott, two servants in the Kinnear household, were charged with the crime. The book follows the fictional character Dr. Simon Jordan as he looks into the case and grows more personally involved with Grace.

Sarah Polley praised Paquin in a recent press release, calling the Oscar-winning actress “an incredibly versatile performer who always makes complex, unpredictable and fascinating choices in her work[…]It’s always a marvel to watch her and we’re thrilled to have her join the cast”.

Production on Alias Grace began August 15th in Ontario, Canada. When completed, the miniseries will air on CBC in Canada, and will be available to stream globally on Netflix.
