The cast of the upcoming Ms. Marvel Disney+ series is taking shape, with Anjail Bhimani (Critical Role) set to join the cast in an recurring role, according to ComicBook.com. This will be Bhimani’s second appearance in a Marvel series, as she also appeared in Marvel’s Runaways as Mita Nansari, an employee at the tech company Wizard.
The name of Bhimani’s character is currently unclear.
Ms. Marvel stars newcomer Iman Vellani as Kamala Kahn (Ms. Marvel), a 16-year-old Pakistani American from Jersey City, New Jersey, who is an aspiring artist an obsessed with video games and fan fiction, particularly of The Avengers and Captain Marvel.
Other confirmed members of the cast include Aramis Knight (The Dark Knight Rises), Saagar Shaikh (Liza on Demand), Rish Shah (To All The Boys: Always And Forever), Matt Lintz (The Walking Dead), Zenobia Shroff (The Big Sick), and Mohan Kapur (Happy New Year), according to ComicBook.com.
The show is created and produced by Sana Amanat (Marvel Rising: Playing With Fire), who discussed the Ms. Marvel character with Inquirer.
“She’s grown so much in the last four years and the diversity of our fanbase alone is so impressive. They all love Ms. Marvel. It goes to show we have a really great story with great creators,” Ms. Marvel co-creator and producer Sana Amanat previously told Inquirer. “I think it’s incredibly important that we tell young women and young girls that they have this incredible power within themselves, and that they have heroes out there [who] they can look up to, especially in these times.”
The series is written by Bisha K. Ali (Loki). Adil El Arbi (Black) and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life) directed the first and sixth episodes of Ms. Marvel’s first season. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Saving Face) directed three others while Meera Menon (Farrah Goes Bang) directed one episode, per ComicBook.com.
