Norman Lear (All In The Family, Maude) is creating his first animated series with re-imagined version of Good Times with Netflix, according to Deadline. The series comes from Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) and Fuzzy Door Productions, Steph Curry and his company Unanimous Media, Lear and Act III Productions, and Sony Pictures TV.
Good Times was a popular sitcom in the 70s that followed the Evans family as they navigate life while living in public housing project in Chicago. The show was TV’s first two-parent family sitcom featuring two African American parents. It was a spin off of the show Maude. The original series aired on CBS for six seasons.
The animated series will follow the Evans family as they try to make it through today’s world and will deal with modern social issues just like the original series had.
Along with Lear, Curry and MacFarlane, Brent Miller (One Day At A Time) for Act III Productions will produce. Erick Peyton (Holey Moley) and Jeron Smith (Stephen vs. The Game) for Unanimous, and Erica Huggins (Son of the Mask) for Fuzzy Door will also serve as producers. Carl Jones (The Boondocks, Black Dynamite) will serve as creator, showrunner and executive producer on the project.
Most recently, Lear’s One Day At A Time was rebooted at Netflix and then moved over to Pop after Netflix cancelled the show after three seasons. Additionally, Jimmy Kimmel and Lear have been recreating classic episodes of Lear’s TV shows with the Emmy-winning Live In Front of a Studio Audience franchise.
Jones tweeted his excitement about working with Lear, Curry and MacFarlane.
