A third season of the sitcom Animal Control starring Joel McHale (The Happytime Murders, Deliver Us from Evil) has been ordered by Fox. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series had been renewed for its third season just a month before the March premiere of its second season. Animal Control was created by Dan Sterling (Long Shot, Girls), Rob Greenberg (The Moodys, The Valet) and Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers, We’re the Millers) with Tad Quill (Scrubs, Angel from Hell) as the showrunner.
The Community alum McHale stars in Animal Control, which is the only series that is wholly owned by Fox after selling its studio counterpart to Disney a few years back, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter; Jake Fuller (Emily in Paris, The Other Two) and McHale executively produce the series along with Quill, Sterling, Greenberg and Fisher.
“Animal Control is an incredibly irreverent series that expresses everything viewers expect from a Fox comedy. It has an amazing amount of momentum behind it, and we’ve been so impressed by the work Joel, Bob, Rob, Dan, Tad, Jake and the entire cast are delivering for season two we wanted to reward them with the opportunity to deliver even more of this special show to fans next season,” stated Michael Thorn, the president of scripted programming at Fox via The Hollywood Reporter.
Following Animal Control’s release, it became the most-watched premiere in Fox’s history and the most-streamed comedy episode of all time, as per the network and The Hollywood Reporter. The series also has an impressive 2.6 million views on Hulu.
The second season of Animal Control will welcome some guest stars to the sitcom, such as Sarah Chalke (Scrubs, Rick and Morty), Krystal Smith (Welcome to Flatch) and Ken Jeong (The Hangover, Crazy Rich Asians). They will join the current stars of the show, which includes Vella Lowell (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Big Sick), Grace Palmer (Good Grief, Adrift), Ravi Patel (Transformers, Meet the Patels) and Michael Rowland (This Week at the Comedy Cellar). Season two of Animal Control premieres on Wednesday, March 6, at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that this series is the first live-action scripted show to be revived for the 2024-25 broadcast season and will be accompanied by a slew of animated comedies on the network, such as Family Guy, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Krapopolis and Grimsburg. Fox is also in the process of producing Rescue: Hi Surf and Doc, two freshmen series on the network, as well as the animated series Universal Basic Guys/The Hoagie Bros that is underway.
