American Horror Story: Delicate star Emma Roberts (Scream Queens) has apologized to Angelica Ross (Pose) for an alleged transphobic comment made on the set of American Horror Story: 1984. Ross accused her former co-star of allegedly intentionally misgendering her while talking with a crewmember on the set. Fortunately, Ross has taken to Twitter to let fans know that Roberts has apologized.
“Thank you [Emma Roberts] for calling and apologizing, recognizing your behavior was not that of an ally,” wrote Ross in the Tweet. “I will leave the line open to follow up on your desire to do better and support social justice causes with your platform.”
This apology came in the wake of Ross taking to Instagram Live to discuss the alleged unpleasant environment she experienced while filming American Horror Story: 1984, specifically speaking allegations on the behavior of Roberts. In this, she brought up the exact moment that Roberts allegedly intentionally misgendered Ross, who is a trans woman.
“I’m standing in front of Emma, talking to her like this, and she’s in front of me, her back against the mirror,” said Ross. “She goes, ‘John, Angelica’s being mean.’” The crewmember known as “John” then urged the two to “get back to work”.
“John is like, ‘OK, ladies, that’s enough. Let’s get back to work.’ And she then looks at me, and she goes, ‘Don’t you mean lady?’ And she turns around like this and covers her mouth,” Ross continued. “I’m staring at her, looking her dead ass in the [camera], and I’m like, trying to process the f**k she just said.” Ross chose to not speak about the experience at the moment as she thought it would backfire on her. “I’m like, ‘If I say something, it’s going to be me that’s the problem,’ and I know this because there was someone who spoke up about what she was doing and they got repercussions from it. Not her! They did.”
After this interaction, Ross added that she did not speak with Roberts while on the set, unless the two actors were sharing a scene together. Roberts eventually did catch on to this energy, “I was just like, ‘I’m done,’” Ross said. “We had scenes together, and I never spoke to her. She said to me, she could feel the energy coming off of me. She was like, ‘Are you OK? You haven’t been talking.’ I’m like, ‘Mmmhmm.’”
The apology also comes following accusations of Ryan Murphy (Hollywood, Glee) leaving her “on read” after he reached out to her about an all-Black cast for a new season of AHS.
