Comicbook has reported that Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, Afterlife) led the cast of The Walking Dead for nine seasons as Rick Grimes before tackling a spin-off in Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Now, there are rumblings of a possible return to the original series. Lincoln’s Rick Grimes woke from a coma to a world overrun by zombies in season one of The Walking Dead. Grimes would go on to lead the Atlanta survivors before his eventual demise in season nine. Although it may now seem that it was not the end.
According to Comicbook, Lincoln was on the September 21st episode of Sunday With Laura Kussenberg with Alicia Viklander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) . In addition to speaking about their play, The Lady And The Sea, Lincoln shared some information about The Walking Dead. After gushing about his experiences working on the show in the United States, Lincoln said, “There’s a conversation happening right now,” when asked about a possible return to the main series.
Comicbook has reported that the last time we saw Rick Grimes on the original, he returned to the Commonwealth and was given a chance to reunite with his family. According to The Walking Dead timeline, it had been seven years since Rick Grimes had seemingly died in a bridge explosion.
According to Comicbook, due to this family reunion, many have speculated about the possibility of the convergence between the original and the spin-off. One of the main theories is that the entire original cast would be on board for the series’ 12th and final season. Another prominent character, Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus (The Bikeriders, The Boondocks Saints) has a spin-off, titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and its fourth season could bring its titular character back stateside. Another theory suggests that a film franchise could continue the story of Rick Grimes.
