According to Deadline, the HBO series And Just Like That… will come to an end with its third season. Showrunner Michael Patrick King (Sex And The City, The Comeback) told the cast on Thursday that the show with end with the extended twelve-episode third season.
As Deadline reports, King released a statement on Friday saying, “And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end, While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker (Hocus Pocus, Sex And The City), Casey Bloys (Less Than Perfect) and Sarah Aubrey (Battleship, The Kingdom), we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12. SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”
The sequel series to Sex In The City premiered in 2021, reuniting Parker’s, Cynthia Nixon’s (Sex And The City, The Golden Age), and Kirsten Davis’ (Sex And The City, Deadly Illusions) characters for more romantic drama in the bustling New York City, per Deadline. The series saw Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw coping with the death of her husband.
The drama series had high viewership at its premiere according to Deadline, but that viewership slowly dropped over time. The season three premiere was watched by 34,000 fewer people than the season two premiere.
Deadline says that the series received a fair amount of both praise and criticism, and that the ending change of the series is a creative decision impacted by the storytelling moving at an awkward pace.
Deadline reports that the cast of And Just Like That… also includes Alexa Swinton (Emergence, Old), Niall Cunningham (Life In Pieces, Poker Face), Cathy Ang (over The Moon, My Best Friend’s Exorcism), Evan Handler (Californication, Sex And The City), Christopher Jackson (Hamilton, In The Heights), Nicole Ari Parker (Brown Sugar, Soul Food), David Eigenberg (Chicago Fire, Sex And The City), Sarita Choudhury (A Perfect Murder, the Eagle Eye), Sebastian Pigazzi (Time Is Up, We Are Who We Are), Dolly Wells (Inside Man, Blunt Talk), Mehcad Brooks (A Fall From Grace, Creature), Jonathan Cake (out Of The Ashes, Diamond Girl), and Logan Marshall-Green (Upgrade, The Invitation)
