After 30 years, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will have a reunion special on HBO Max, according to Deadline. The special will be unscripted and feature Will Smith (Men In Black, Gemini Man) and a few of his returning co-stars.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air premiered on NBC on September 10th, 1990. The cast will record the special exactly 30 years later on September 10th, 2020.
Those from the original cast set to make an appearance include Tatyana Ali (The Young and the Restless), Karyn Parsons (The Job), Joseph Marcell (The Bold and the Beautiful), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Harriet), Alfonso Ribeiro (Silver Spoons), DJ Jazzy Jeff (Rock The House), and Smith.
HBO Max has the SVOD rights to all six seasons of the original series. The reunion special will be available to watch on the streaming service around Thanksgiving and will be produced by Jada Pinkett Smith’s and Will Smith’s production company Westbrook Media.
This special will include the cast looking back on the series and its cultural impact. A popular music video director, Marcus Raboy (O.P.P., Wake Waka), will be directing the special and Rikki Hughes (All Def Comedy) will serve as showrunner. The reunion will involve music, dancing, surprise guests, and reminiscing.
In addition to the special, Westbrook Studios and Universal Studios are developing a one hour drama based on a short film by Morgan Cooper (You Shoot Videos?). The show is a hot commodity and there is a competition between a few streamers.
HBO Max posted on Twitter to announce the news of the reunion special.
