Amy Adams (Nightbitch, Arrival) is set to star in and serve as executive producer for Apple TV+ ‘s Cape Fear with Javier Bradem (No Country for Old Men, SkyFall), that has the same titles for the project, as noted by Deadline. Nick Antosca (Channel Zero, Antlers), Martin Scorsese (Goodfella, Taxi Driver) and Steven Spielberg (Schindler’s List, Jaws) are serving as producers on the project as well.
The first season is cleared for ten episodes and was approved back in November 2024. Deadline described the series as “Hitchcockian”, as it analyzes the true crime wave that has taken America on by storm for the past few decades. The first season follows Amanda (Adams) and her husband Steve Boweden, a loving couple who both work as attorneys. Things take a turn when Max Cady (Bardem) makes a reappearance in their lives after being released from prison.
Cape Fear is based upon the original 1952 novel The Executioners by John D. Mcdonald, which was the inspiration behind the 1962 film Cape Fear directed by J.Lee Thompson (The Guns of Navarone, Mackenna’s Gold). The novel followed a tortured attorney as he was haunted by a killer he helped put behind bars. A remake of this film was released in 1991 and was directed by Scorsese.
Amblin Television, a division of Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Entertainment, is a part of the production team. Nick Antosca is the show runner, also producing the show through his company Eat the Cat with executive producer Alex Hudland under the Eat the Cat banner
Amy Adams is a two-time Golden Globe winning actress and was nominated for a Golden Globe this past year for her recent film Nightbitch. Alongside Cape Fear, Adams has several upcoming projects including Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun for Sony and Kornel Mundruczó’s At the Sea, according to Deadline.
