Good news! American Horror Story was just renewed for a seventh season!
Bad news. We don’t know when it will air.
Today FX announced that the fan-favorite horror anthology series would return for season 7, but nobody has mentioned when it might air. This year the minds behind American Horror Story had a field day trolling fans by not revealing the theme for season six until the season premiere. Now it seems the series might step up its game by not even giving fans a heads up when season 7 might air.
TV Guide reports that FX Network CEO John Landgraf said, “Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuk] and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment. The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists. We thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordinary series.”
The seventh season of AHS may have just been given the go-ahead, but Ryan Murphy has already been working on it. A couple weeks ago, Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that he had already begun working on season 7, or has he called it, his “secret season.”
“I don’t know when it will [air] but it’s also an experiment. It’s a different way of doing it. It’s one person writing all episodes. I don’t know if it’s going to work but it’s like, well, let’s try that. We might get them done and shoot them on the sly and drop it,” said Murphy.
“It’s like a 2-year-project that we’ll continue to work on the sly and not tell anyone,” Murphy added.
The mystery surrounding the theme of this year’s season, American Horror Story: Roanoke, tormented fans. But at least we knew when the season would premiere. Now it sounds like Murphy is hiding much more than just the theme.
But it does beg the question: if AHS will continue to look for new ways to surprise fans, then what is next?
While we wait to see when season 7 premieres, which could be any time at this point, season six is currently airing on Wednesdays on FX.
