Rose Siggins, known for playing Legless Suzi in American Horror Story: Freak Show, died on Saturday in a Denver hospital. She was 43. Siggins died of an infection which spread throughout her body after a kidney stone surgery from earlier this month.
When Siggins was born, she was diagnosed with a condition known as sacral agenesis, but later she said what she had was more like spina bifida. At the age of two, she lost both legs and has struggled with kidney and pancreas problems her entire life.
Siggins’ television credits include portraying herself the 2010 TV documentary Born Different: Unbelievable Medical Conditions and Schlitzie: One of Us, another documentary which is still in development. She also appeared in Ripley’s Believe It or Not and Extraordinary People. Siggins is best known for playing Legless Suzi in the fourth season of American Horror Story: Freak Show which ran from 2014 to 2015.
FX released a statement on Facebook following her death saying, “We are saddened to learn of the passing of Rose Siggins. She was beloved by everyone in the AHS family. She was kind person, a loving mother, and a very talented actor. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time.” Siggins has two children, Luke and Shelby, and a GoFundMe account has been set up in their honor. Her fellow American Horror Story stars such as Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, and Gabourey Sidibe have all taken to Twitter to express their sympathies and ask for fans to please consider Siggins’ children during this difficult time.
Sadly, Siggins is not the only Freak Show actor to pass away this year. On February 23, the side mirror of a passing car struck American Horror Story actor Ben Woolf in the head at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Gramercy Place. Woolf, who was only 34, died from the blow. Woolf was known for playing the character Meep in Freak Show.
