AMC’s ‘Dark Winds’ Fourth Season Adds Franka Potente

Renewed for a fourth season before its third season premiere, AMC’s Dark Winds has announced new cast addition. Deadline reports Franka Potente will join the 1970s noir crime drama. The series recently premiered its third season this past Sunday.

Based on the Tony Hillerman (Dance Hall of the Dead, Listening Woman) novels, Dark Winds follows a trio of Navajo tribal police officers in the 1970s Navajo Nation of the Southwest. The series stars Zahn McClarnaon (Castlevania: Nocturne, Reservation Dogs) as Lt. Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon (Blood Quantum, The Lesser Blessed) as Deputy Jim Chee, and Jessica Matten (Frontier, Burden of Truth) as Officer Bernadette Manuelito. The three solve a litany of crimes across the reservation along with Amercan-bred prejudice and other ills.

Deadline reports Potente joins the series after recent stint on the network’s fantastical second season of Mayfair Witches. Three series  — Interview With the Vampire, Mayfair Witches, and the upcoming The Talamasca — make up AMC’s Immortal Universe, which brings horror author Anne Rice’s classic Southern gothic tales to life. Potente played Annamike, Talamasca agent devoted to monitoring the supernatural happenings of witches and vampires. Other recent TV roles remained in the fantastical, including voicework for Netflix’s Castlevania: Nocturne and playing the lead villain in DC’s now-canceled Titans series.

Deadline reports production for season four will commence this month, returning to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The eight-episode fourth season is set for a 2026 premiere.

This season of Dark Winds finds Leaphorn and Chee facing an alleged monster when the search for two missing boys awakens demons from Leaphorn’s past. Meanwhile, Bernadette suspects foul play among the wealthy and powerful in her new position as a border patrol officer.

The series is co-executive produced by entertainment titans Robert Redford (Out of Africa, The Sting) and George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon), and created by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Lost). AMC Studios produces the series with showrunner, Jon Wirth (Fistful of Vengeance, Wu Assassins). Additional executive producers include Wirth, McClarnon, Anne Hillerman (Spider Woman’s Daughter, Song of the Lion), Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals, Skins), Vince Gerardis (Jumper, The Door Into Summer), and Tina Elmo (You’ve Got Mail, Random Hearts).

Dark Winds airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET and streams on AMC+.
