AMC’s Preacher is returning for a second, longer season.
The series is currently halfway through its first season and has already been given a second season order from AMC. Whereas the first season will only be 10 episodes long, the second season will have an addition three episodes, totaling a 13-episode run for season two.
Preacher is based on the the popular comics by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon from the 1990’s. The story follows a man named Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) who, following the death of his father, returns to his home in West Texas. Jesse had promised his father that he would take over his father’s church, and thus returns to his home town in order to keep his word. But things become complicated when Jesse’s body is taken over by a force which gives him the power to make others obedient to his command. As if Jesse’s new power weren’t enough for one person to deal with, his abilities catches the attention of Fiore (Tom Brooke) and DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef), two angels. After entering into a world filled with creatures of holly and demonic natures, Jesse, his ex-girlfriend and total badass Tulip (Ruth Negga), and scoundrel Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) go looking for God.

Variety reports that Preacher ranks second as the best and most watched new cable series this year with each episode has averaged around 3.3 million viewers.
Also starring in the series are Lucy Griffiths, W. Earl Brown, Derek Wilson, and Ian Colletti. Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen, and Sam Catlin developed and executive produce the hit series with Catlin serving as showrunner and writer.
Preacher airs Sunday nights on AMC. Season 2 is expected to air sometime in 2017.
