As if we didn’t have enough to celebrate today, AMC gives us another reason. AMC released a midseason teaser trailer for The Walking Dead, but I suppose calling the 30 second glimpse at the second half of season 6 a trailer is a bit of a stretch.
In the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it sneak peak at the rest of the current season of The Walking Dead, we see Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in potential danger, Glenn (Steven Yeun) shooting zombies in the head, and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) covered in blood. “I thought living behind these walls was possible,” we hear Lincoln as Rick narrating the trailer say. “I was wrong.” I wouldn’t think it would be easy to live in an apocalyptic, zombie-infested world, but these guys really can’t catch a break.
While we don’t see Negan, the new villain played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, in the trailer, we do get a hint of his arrival. We may not get a look at the show’s new baddie, but I’m guessing the thugs on motorcycles are part of Negan’s group known as “the Saviors.”
“Negan is the leader of the Saviors. He’s the new biggest threat, possibly the biggest ever threat that’s ever been introduced in the Walking Dead,” said exec producer Robert Kirkman in an interview with Variety in November after the midseason finale. “We’ve announced that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is playing him, and he’s an absolutely amazing actor. He checks every box needed for Negan, which is he’s very personable. You like this guy. He’s very funny. But he’s also extremely intimidating. Very powerful. Just a very wide range of personality traits that Negan encompasses. It was very difficult to find somebody who did check all those boxes. But I’m very happy to say Mr. Morgan does. Negan himself is a catalyst who fundamentally changes what we’re doing with The Walking Dead and how these characters exist and really messes a lot of things up for Rick in a lot of terrifying ways. There’s a lot of cool stuff in store for The Walking Dead fans when he debuts.”
The Walking Dead returns from its winter hiatus on Feb. 14 on AMC.
