The aesthetics of vampire mythology had influenced rock fashion for decades. Now AMC is going to bring us the first-ever immortal rockstar, blending the music and genre into one. Vampire Lestat released single ahead of the series premiere today titled “Long Face”. The single is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon. AMC produced the record in association with Lakeshore Records.
Daniel Hart (The Old Man & The Gun, The Green Knight), composer of the track, said, “Long Face is the first song I wrote for The Vampire Lestat. We decided early on to make David Bowie a big influence for Lestat’s musical style and persona, and there’s certainly some Ziggy Stardust in this song. But we chose Bowie not only for his glam era, but because he was a chameleon. Expect Lestat to change his musical colors throughout the season as well, as he discovers how to remain true to himself, and how to express that truth on stage every night.”
AMC shared a bio for the composer: Daniel Hart is a composer and performer based in Los Angeles. Hart made his feature film debut in 2013 with the critically acclaimed Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, which began his collaboration with filmmaker David Lowery. Hart has composed the music for all of Lowery’s films, including The Green Knight, Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story, Old Man and The Gun, and the upcoming Mother Mary. Over the past decade, he has also scored multiple TV shows, from Fox’s The Exorcist, to SMILF, to SUNNY. He has written music for This American Life, and composed the score for S Town, one of the most popular podcasts of all time.
Hart and showrunner Rolin Jones have been collaborating on Interview with the Vampire since 2021. The Vampire Lestat puts Hart’s music front and center: he and Jones worked side by side in the writer’s room this year, with Hart co-writing one of the episodes, and writing over twenty songs for the Vampire Lestat to sing. Hart’s musical career started on the road, as a hired gun for bands such as St. Vincent, Broken Social Scene, Other Lives, and The Polyphonic Spree. He has also fronted his own band, Dark Rooms, since 2013. The new season brings Daniel Hart back to those rock’n’roll roots, both as a songwriter, and as the Musical Director for the onscreen band which Lestat fronts.”
The series will follow Lestat de Lioncourt as he embarks on a tour, haunted by “muses” from his past. His popularity and power will begin to rise amidst a supernatural surge in vampires known as the great conversion. The ensuing power struggle within the vampire community will hamper Letstat’s meteoric rise.
Lestat, in character, spoke on “Long Face”, “Long Face is the first song Daniel Hart ‘produced’ for my album. He decided early on to steal where he could from Bowie because he hasn’t had an original idea for five years now (is that his Green Knight score fading in the rear view?) As for Long Face, the bass should have walked down with the guitar at the end instead of pedaling on E. Predictable. Like everything Daniel Hart touches.”
Letstat will be played by Sam Reid (Belle, The Railway Man). Also, joining him in the cast are Assad Zaman (Interview With A Vampire, Small Axe), Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio Uncut Gems), Jacob Anderson (Game Of Thrones, Interview With A Vampire), Delainey Hayles (Carrie, Too Close), and Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty, Little Men). The series is executive produced by Mark Johnson (Rain Man, Interview With A Vampire), vampire fiction Royalty Anne (Interview With A Vampire, The Queen Of The Dammed) and Christopher Rice (Heaven Rise, A Destiny Of Souls), and Hannah Moscovitch (Little Bird, X Company). The series is created, showrun, and EPed by Rollin Jones (Friday Night Lights, Weeds).
