AMC Cancels ‘Parish’ After One Season

According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC confirms that  the series Parish will end after only one season. The series is based loosely on the British series The Driver and stars Giancarlo Esposito (Do The Right Thing), Zackary Momoh (The Kill Team) and Paula Malcomson (The Hunger Games), among others, premiered in March and released six episodes.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, AMC said in a statement, “We’re so proud of Parish, and thankful for the creative talent involved and the performances they were able to bring to the screen, starting with the remarkable Giancarlo Esposito, Skeet Ulrich and the entire cast. We are unfortunately unable to proceed with a second season, but Season 1 will remain available on AMC+ to fans who want to relive this thrill-ride-of-a-series and those yet to discover it.”

In a review by The Hollywood Reporter Esposito was given praise for his performance on the series calling him “an emotionally volcanic leading man,” but criticized most other aspects, saying, “it’s full of extended sequences that you’ve seen done better countless times.”

Per the synopsis, the series follows  “a family man and proud owner of a luxury car service in New Orleans. After his son is violently murdered and his business collapses, an encounter with an old friend from his days as a wheelman resurfaces old habits, sending Gray on a high-stakes collision course with a violent criminal syndicate.”

Esposito plays Gracian ‘Gray’ Parish, Momoh plays The Horse, Malcomson plays Ros. Cast members for the series also included Skeet Ulrich (The Craft) as Colin, Ivan Mbakop (Hawkeye) as Zenzo, Bonnie Mbuli (Catch a Fire) as Shamiso Tongai, Arica Himmel (God Friended Me) as Makayla, Dax Rey (The Good Place) as Luke and Ekow Blade (Ibrahim) as Chipo.

The series was created by Danny Brocklehurst (Ten Pounds Poms) and Jim Poyser (Give Out Girls), and produced by AMC Studios, in association with A+E Studios and Thruline Entertainment.
