AMC Cancels ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’ After One Season

According to Deadline, AMC Network, has canceled the sci-fi series Orphan Black: Echoes after its first season. This news was one week after the spinoff of Orphan Black ended its 10-episode run on the network, AMC+ and BBC on August 25.

Orphan Black: Echoes is a spinoff of Orphan Black that follows the life of adult Kira and her wife as they attempt to help an amnesiac woman. Throughout the series, a group of women weave themselves into each other’s lives and journeys to unravel the mystery of their identity. The series explores the scientific manipulation of human existence.

The spinoff series did not do as well when it came to a devoted following as the original series did. The series scored 60% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and even lower with fans.

The series was created by Anna Fishko (Fear the Walking Dead), who also served as a writer, showrunner and executive producer. John Fawcett (Ginger Snaps), the co-creator of the original series, also served as director and executive producer. Other executive producers include David Fortier (The Next Step), Ivan Schneeberg (Frida), Nick Nantell (The Number 23), Kerry Appleyard (Robyn Hood) and Katie O’Connell Marsh (American Rust).

The series cast includes Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) as Lucy, Keely Hawes (Line of Duty) as Kira Manning, Amanda Fix (North of Normal) as Jules Lee, Avan Jogia (Now Apocalypse) as Jack, James Hiroyuki Liao (The Dropout) as Paul Darros, Reed Diamond (Designated Survivor!) as Tom, Jaeden Noel (Critters Attack!) as Lucas Miller-Manning and many others.

As per DeadlineOrphan Black was one of the reasons that BBC America was able to be put on the original programming map. The series ran for five seasons from 2013 to 2016 and won many Emmy awards.

Orphan Black: Echoes and the original series Orphan Black is available to stream on AMC+.
