There was some good news in April for fans of The Walking Dead franchise. Along with the spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, another spinoff was announced that gave proof for the longevity of the zombie franchise. Not many details were shared about the new apocalyptic drama series until a new teaser trailer was released today by AMC and Skybound.
You can check out the trailer below.
According to Vulture, the show “will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse as we know it. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”
Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead universe, Scott Gimple, and longtime flagship writer Matt Negrete co-created the series. Negrete will also serve as showrunner.
“It’s gonna be completely different from the other two shows,” Gimple said. “We’re trying to open up these new worlds of The Walking Dead to show different corners, different tones, different aspects. Hopefully they compliment one another.”
At San Diego Comic-Con, AMC was present to spill a secret regarding the spinoff.
“The big secret is that all along, there have been other civilizations that survived the apocalypse,” said Gimple. “We saw hints of that in Season 7 of The Walking Dead and again in [Fear Season 5 episode] ’The End of Everything,’ and now we’re about to show a lot more of the world in a bunch of different projects.”
The cast includes Aliyah Royale, Annet Mahendru, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, and Hal Cumpston. Details of their characters have been kept under wraps.
The Walking Dead has been on AMC since 2010 and it quickly grew popular amongst not only comic book fans, but also for fans who had never heard of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series. It’s no secret that AMC would want to further expand the zombie universe.
“This extraordinary comic created a world that already lives in multiple forms, and in the hearts and minds of millions of fans around the world, and will for many years to come,” said AMC.
The 10-episode drama will premiere in Spring 2020 on AMC.
