Amazon’s ‘The Boys’ Adds Shawn Ashmore to Season Two Cast

The Amazon Prime Video original series The Boys has added Shawn Ashmore (The Following, X-Men) to its second season cast, according to Screen Rant. The dark comedy-action series debuted in 2019 with an eight-episode first season and is set to premiere its second season on September 4 of 2020 which will also consist of eight-episodes as well. Created by Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Revolution), the series is executive produced by the likes of Seth Rogen (Superbad), Evan Goldberg (Pineapple Express), Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Black Mirror), Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend, Prison Break), Kripke himself, and many more. Prior to the second season premiering, the show has also been renewed for a third season by Amazon.

The Boys is a superhero action series that combines dark comedy and the reality of superheroes living amongst humans while tackling the chaos that ensues. The series centers on a crew set to take down the villainous corporation Vought which is in charge of the supes following various instances of the supes misusing their powers for evil and destruction. The cast includes the likes of Karl Urban (Dredd) as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games) as Hughie Campbell, Erin Moriarty (True Detective) as Annie/Starlight, Antony Starr (Banshee) as Homelander, Jessie T. Usher (When the Game stands Tall) as A-Train, Laz Alonso (Detroit, Jarhead) as Mother’s Milk, Chase Crawford (Gossip Girl) as The Deep, Dominique McElligott (Moon) as Queen Maeve, Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad) as Kimiko, and Tomer Kapon (Fauda) as Frenchie. In addition to Ashmore, the second season also introduces the new supe in Stormfront portrayed by Aya Cash (You’re the Worst).

Ashmore will be added to The Boys cast as Lamplighter, a former member of Vought’s The Seven. Lamplighter’s departure from The Seven was a major plot point in the series’ first season as it allowed Moriarity’s character Starlight to join the illustrious group of superheroes. Despite this, the character Lamplighter has never been involved in any scenes from the show and has been suggested to be responsible for the demise of the grandson of a former leader of the titular group Grace Mallory, portrayed by Laila Robins (Planes, Trains and Automobiles). This will not be Ashmore’s first instance of depicting a superhero as he portrayed Iceman in the X-Men film franchise with appearances in such films as X2, X-Men, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past
