According to Deadline, Amazon Prime Video is developing a series based on the book Seven Wonders written by Ben Mezrich (Reaper, The Midnight Ride). The series is going to be executive produced by Simu Liu (Hello (Again), Crimson Defender vs. The Slightly Racist Family) who will also play the lead. Justin Lin (True Detective, Scorpion) has been called to direct the Seven Wonders series and Adam Cozad (Underwater) will write for the show.
The Seven Wonders story follows Doctor Nate Grady who will be played by Liu (Taken, Omega), an amazing botanist who likes to adventure and usually teams up with the international fixer Sloane Seydoux. Together they are trying to solve an ancient mystery tied to the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
According to Deadline, the idea for the show came from Beau Flynn (San Andreas, Choke) and Mezrich, who worked on the Seven Wonders book together. Flynn has produced movies like Disney’s Jungle Cruise, Netflix’s Red Notice, and Warner Brothers Black Adam, all starring Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Skyscraper).
Simu Liu is a former star of Kim’s Convenience, a comedy series produced by CBC and Netflix. Liu became a household name after starring in the role of superhero Shang-Chi for the Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Teng Rings, which is one of the few Marvel projects that has an almost perfect Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. Liu’s next project is the film Arthur the King where he will star alongside Mark Wahlberg (Uncharted, Transformers: The Last Knight).
Director Justin Lin and writer Adam Cozad have previously worked together at Warner Bros. when developing the project called Snap Dragon. Cozad has also co-penned the scripts for movies like Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Legend of Tarzan. He has also worked as a consulting producer for the television show The Old Man from FX.
Justin Lin’s previous directing jobs include several movies in the Fast and Furious franchise from Universal along with the sci-fi movie Star Trek: Beyond. He was recently asked to direct the live-action adaptation of the world-famous manga series One Punch Man for Sony Pictures. His television credits include executive producing CBS’s S.W.A.T. and Magnum P. I. which is moving to NBC. He also directed the pilots for the two series.
Amazon hasn’t released the premiere date for the series but in the meantime, you can watch Simu Liu’s performance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on Disney+.
