Amazon Prime’s new series Hanna is an adaptation of the 2011 thriller of the same name. According to Comingsoon, Hanna who has lived all her life in a forest in Poland becomes the focus of an untangling conspiracy and has to leave the forest in order to experience life. Although, once in the world, Hanna is hunted by Marissa (Enos), who is connected to her unknown origins and extraordinary abilities. Hanna’s father Erik (Kinnaman) is an ex-CIA agent, who for 15 years, has raised his daughter in a forest in northern Poland, in complete isolation. He has trained Hanna to survive in order to keep her safe. Hanna begins to seek freedom from the restricted world she lives in and wants to find the truth behind her identity.

Actress Esme Creed-Miles discussed her role with The Hollywood Reporter prior to the series’ March 29 premiere. Creed-Miles explained how she did not watch the movie prior to filming: “Saoirse’s performance is so badass and I didn’t want to try and rip her off because I feel like that would be disrespect to her craft.” She believes the series version is more “grounded,” while in the 2011 movie “she’s this ethereal, otherworldly character, whereas this Hanna is more of a normal teenager.” Creed-Miles had to undergo intense martial arts training to prepare for her role. She trained with her famous dad, Charlie Creed-Miles. “I remember training with my dad for it because my dad’s been doing martial arts for 20 years,” she said.

According to Comingsoon, David Farr co-wrote the original film and penned the series adaptation. Enos and Kinnaman previously starred together in the AMC series The Killing, which makes this Amazon adaptation of the movie something of a reunion for the actors. The series will be executive produced by Mary Adelstein and Becky Clements, as well as NBC Universal International Studios’ Scott Nemes and JoAnn Alfano. Sarah Adina Smith (Legion, Room 104) directed the series, which was shot in March 2018 across several countries including Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, and the U.K. and is scheduled to debut on Amazon in March of 2019. Hanna premieres on Amazon Prime on March 29.
