According to The Hollywood Reporter Jury Duty has confirmed that there will be a second season, and that the filming has already been wrapped. The candid camera show was filmed at a corporate retreat.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon chose not to provide a statement regarding the recent developments. The first season of the series premiered in 2023, streaming on Amazon’s Freevee platform. The show was popular amongst its viewers with its hidden-camera humor centered around unsuspecting participant Ronald Gladden. A cast of actors—including James Marsden (Sonic the Hedgehog, The Notebook) portraying an exaggerated version of himself— played the roles of quirky jurors, a judge, and various courtroom figures. Meanwhile, Gladden remained completely unaware that the entire scenario was a fabrication. As the season continued, the ruse became more elaborate, eventually revealing the prank in the last episode.
The show was shot at the Agoura Hills suburb in Los Angeles, filmed at a corporate event instead of at a court-room.
Cody Heller, the show runner from the first season, told The Hollywood Reporter “There was something about that fear of failure that ignited something in myself.” She said that the cast is who motivated her. “Ronald Gladden restored my faith in humanity,” she said.
Marsden agreed with Heller, telling The Hollywood Reporter “You get one take. If he sees a hidden camera, or someone calls somebody by the wrong name, the whole thing is upended. That was really exciting to me, just from the perspective of [wondering], ‘Can we pull this off?”
Gladden has taken his thrust upon fame well, even making brand deals with companies like Gersh and Amazon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gladden, Marsden, and others from the season continued their friendship off screen after filming wrapped.
The creators behind the series are Lee Eisenberg (Little America, Good Boys) and Gene Stupnitsky (Good Boys, No Hard Feelings).
