“It’s good to see you again, Jack,” James Greer says. “Yeah, you too,” Jack replies. Those were the only words said in Amazon’s action packed teaser trailer for the second season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. According to Deadline, the teaser was released during the Television Critics Association press tour. The teaser follows Ryan who appears to be tracking a suspicious shipment of illegal arms in the jungles of Venezuela as he heads to South America. The investigation could threaten to uncover a major conspiracy causing the Venezuelan president to launch a counter-attack that will hit home for Ryan. This will lead Ryan and his fellow operatives on a global mission that spans from the U.S. to the U.K. to Russia and to Venezuela unravelling the president’s nefarious plot.
The first season of the show premiered August 31, 2018. It followed CIA analyst Jack Ryan as he stumbles across a series of suspicious bank transfers that pulls him from his desk job to Europe and the Middle East. While there, he becomes caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with the rising threat of ISIS as they prepare to release an ebola virus as an act of terrorism against the U.S. and their allies.
According to Deadline, John Krasinski will return to play Jack Ryan alongside his mentor James Greer, played by Wendell Pierce, and Abbie Cornish, who plays Ryan’s girlfriend, Cathy Mueller. Some of the season’s newcomers include Noomi Rapace, who plays the German intelligence agent Harriet “Harry” Baumann, alongside fellow newcomer and House of Cards alum Michael Kelly as a fellow CIA field officer, Mike November. Other newcomers include Game of Thrones alum Tom Wlaschiha, The Leftovers alum Jovan Adepo, Genius alum Jordi Molla, and Narcos alums Cristina Umaña and Francisco Denis.
Paramount Television and Skydance Television are producing the show along with executive producers Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Michael Bay, John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, Carlton Cuse, and Graham Roland. Andrew Bernstein, Vince Calandra, David Graziano, Tom Clancy, David Ellison, Dana Godlberg, Marcy Ross, Mace Neufeld, Lindsey Springer, Dennie Gordon, and Phil Abraham were brought in to help executive produce Season 2 of the show.
With the new cast, added crew, and a new storyline, the creators Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland described the upcoming season. Cuse stated, “We see each one of these seasons like different book in the series.” Roland followed up with, “You should be able to watch it in the same way that you can go to an airport bookstore and grab a Tom Clancy Jack Ryan book and never have read the previous one, and still enjoy it. In that same way, you should be able to enjoy our show. It shouldn’t be so serialised that you can’t jump in at any moment.”
Jack Ryan is to be released sometime in 2019.
