Amazon’s Freevee, the free streaming service formerly known as IMDb TV, released the official trailer for its upcoming original drama series High School. Per the Amazon press release, the series is based on the 2019 memoir by musical twin duo, Tegan and Sara (Crybaby, Heartthrob), of the same name. The TV adaptation was announced the following year. View the trailer below.
Soundtracked by the twins’ cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Siamese Dream) “Today,” the trailer showcases newcomers and TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland as Tegan and Sara in the coming-of-age story. As the twin sisters enter adolescence during the height of the 90s grunge music scene, they both seek ways of separating from the proverbial hip in a journey of self-discovery.
In addition to the Gilliland sisters, the series will star Cobie Smulders (Stumptown, How I Met Your Mother) and Kyle Bornheimer (Worst Week, Perfect Couples) as the girls’ parents, Simone and Patrick, respectively, according to the press release.
Canada natives Tegan and Sara both serve as executive producers along with co-showrunners Clea DuVall (Veep, Happiest Season) and Laura Kittrell (Insecure, Black Monday), via the press release. DuVall will direct several episodes and share writing duties with Kittrell. Additional executive producers include Plan B Entertainment’s Dede Gardner (War Machine, She Said), Carina Sposato (Paper Girls, The Hot Zone), Jeremy Kleiner (If Beale Street Could Talk, Women Talking), and Amazon Studios.
The first four episodes of High School will be available to stream on Amazon’s Freevee on Friday, October 14 in the U.S. and UK. Two episodes each will release the next two Fridays, concluding the eight-episode season. On October 28, all eight episodes will be available via Prime Video in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Fans of Tegan and Sara’s music can stream their cover of “Today” on Amazon Music.
