According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Prime has just cast Isaiah Mustafa (IT: Chapter Two, Murder at Yellowstone City) and Ryan Eggold (New Amsterdam, The Blacklist) as two key characters in their new spy drama series, Cross. The show is based on the award-winning series of novels by James Patterson (Along Came A Spider, Humans, Bow Down) and features the titular character of Alex Cross, who will be portrayed by Aldis Hodge (Black Adam, City on Hill) in the live-action series adaptation (more on Hodge’s casting as Alex Cross can be found: here).
As written by the Hollywood Reporter, the show will follow the story of Alex Cross (Hodge), a detective and forensic psychologist who has the unique ability to dig deep into the minds of both serial killers and their victims. Cross is accompanied by John Sampson (played by Mustafa), aka “Two-John” or “Mountain Man,” his partner on the force and best friend of thirty years who believes that Cross is at a crisis point in his life and needs to seek professional aid.
Meanwhile, Eggold will portray the character of Ed Ramsey, a debonair but dubious Midwestern socialite whose connections in various elite, social, and political circles makes him a formidable adversary against the troubled Alex Cross.
Ben Watkins (Hand of God, Wu-Tang: An American Saga) will serve as the series showrunner and will also executive produce the series alongside Patterson, Bill Robinson (Zoo, The Postcard Killings), Nzingha Stewart (Little Fires Everywhere, With This Ring), Sam Ernst (Daredevil, Hand of God), Jim Dunn (Haven, Crisis), David Ellison (Top Gun: Maverick, The Tomorrow War), Dana Goldberg (I Am Legend, Gemini Man), and Bill Bost (Reacher, Grace & Frankie). As well as starring in Cross, Hodge is also slated to serve as a producer for the show.
Currently, Amazon has yet to announce an expected release date for Cross.
