One of Lois Duncan’s (Killing Mr. Griffin, Don’t Look Behind You) most notable YA novels is receiving another on-screen adaptation for Gen Z. Deadline reports Amazon released the first look of I Know What You Did Last Summer, a series reboot based on Duncan’s 1973 book. Check out the teaser trailer below:
According to Deadline, the modern update stars Ezekiel Goodman (Rat Bastard, Peacocking), Madison Iseman (Jumani: The Next Level, Clouds), Ashley Moore (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Alone Together), and Brianne Tju (47 Meters Down, Scream: The TV Series) as four friends whose senior year is derailed when a lethal secret from their last summer as high schoolers returns to haunt them. This is the second live adaptation of Duncan’s book. The first was a successful film franchise launched in 1997, catapulting the careers of Jennifer Love Hewitt (The Ghost Whisperer, Heartbreakers), Ryan Phillipe (Big Sky, Secrets and Lies), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cruel Intentions), and Freddie Prinze Jr.(Punky Brewster, She’s All That) as the original slasher flick foursome.
Deadline reports the four main cast members are joined by Sebastian Amoruso (Solve), Cassie Beck (High Maintenance, Elementary), Brooke Bloom (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Marriage Story), Bill Heck (Locke & Key, The Alienist), and Fiona Rene (Stumptown, Jane the Virgin). Sonya Balmores (Inhumans, Den of Thieves) and Spencer Sutherland (Afterlife of the Party, Vote for Love) will appear in recurring roles.
According to Deadline, the series is written and executive produced by Sarah Goodman. Goodman is joined by fellow executive producers Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead, John Wick 3: Parabellum), Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz (Battle Royale, The Boys) and Pavun Shetty (Happy!, New Girl), and Erik Feig (Chaos Walking, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), who produced the 1997 feature film. James Wan (Malignant, Aquaman) is an executive producer under his Atomic Monster imprint along with Rob Hackett (The Magic Order, Swamp Thing) and Michael Clear (Mortal Kombat, The Nun). Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV helm the show’s production.
I Know What You Did Last Summer premieres on October 15 only on Amazon Prime.
