Earlier today, Amazon Prime uploaded the trailer for their second collaboration series Pandayat with YouTube channel The Viral Fever. Creator of web hits Hostel Daze and Kota Factory, the channel is a lead for Indian content on the Internet and regularly releases Hindi speaking series such as Pandayat. The eight-episodes series was created by Chandan Kumar and directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra (Humorously Yours), the show is a comedy-drama that draws a humorous yet emotional portrayal of Indian villages.
Bollywood actor Jitendra Kumar (Kota Factory) stars as an engineering graduate Abhishek Tripathi who struggles to make ends meet. Forced to take a secretary job for a panchayat -village council- in Uttar Pradesh, he moves into the small community of Phullera and clashes against a rural world that he does not understand. The show also stars Neena Gupta who already worked with Kumar in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Raghubir Yadav (Newton) and Biswapati Sarkar (Permanent roommates).
When asked about his performance, Kumar said that “Panchayat is the unique and charming story of a young man struggling to adjust to his new life in a remote village. I could not have been more excited to work on Panchayat – and particularly the opportunity to work with the brilliant Neena Guptaji once again”, according to India Today.
Panchayat will premiere on April 3 in Amazon Prime Video.
