Earlier this year, Netflix announced their plans to double their original programming, and now Amazon Prime has also announced the addition of several new original series. Following the second season renewal for Man in the High Castle, Red Oaks, and Hand of God as well as the series order of Good Girls Revolt, Amazon prime will be adding one new drama, three comedies, and three kids TV shows.
The one drama Amazon will be adding to its original programming is Patriot. Patriot is described as a political thriller about the life of John Tavner who is tasked with keeping Iran from going nuclear. Australian actor Michael Dorman will play Tavner and is joined by Terry O’Quinn, Michael Chernus, Kathleen Munroe, Aliette Opheim and Kurtwood Smith.
One Mississippi, the dark comedy coming to Amazon prime, is loosely based on the life of comedian Notaro who also stars in the series. Also joining the cast are Noah Harpster, John Rothman, and Casey Wilson as Tig’s girlfriend, Brooke. In the series, Notaro returns to her childhood hometown following the unexpected death of her mother, and she learns that going home isn’t always easy.
Newcomer Lewis Pullman plays title character Highston Liggetts in Highston, a show about a 19 year old who has a lot of celebrity friends all of whom are imaginary. Mary Lynn Rajskub and Chris Parnell play Jean and Wilbur, Highston’s parents who force their son to get psychiatric help. Hightson’s Uncle Billy (Curtis Armstrong) disagrees with Highston’s parents and thinks there is nothing wrong with the teenager.
Z: The Beginning of Everything is about the life of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald who went from southern belle to the original flapper and Jazz Age icon from the roaring 20’s. Christina Ricci will star as Zelda and executive produce the show.
The kids’ series If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is based on the classic children’s book by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond and answers the age old question of what happens when you indulge a mouse in a cookie. The show follows the adventures of Oliver as his curious friend, Mouse.
The second kids’ show coming to Amazon is called Danger & Eggs. This series follows the adventures of D.D. Danger and his best friend, Phillip D.D. Phillip D.D. is giant talking egg, thus the title.
Niko and the Sword of Light hails from Imaginism Studios, Inc. and Studio NX and is based on a motion graphic comic. The series is about ten year old Niko, the last of his kind. In order to bring the light back to his homeland, he must defeat the darkness with his magic sword. Along the way, he makes new friends and enemies and learns secrets about his past.
