According to Deadline, Amazon has given the green light for a Stargate TV series for Prime Video. The show runner for the series will be Martin Gero (Keep Breathing, Blindspot). The Stargate franchise tells a story centered around a device that creates wormholes for travel across the universe calling it the “Stargate.”
According to Deadline, the Stargate franchise was originally launched with a feature film in 1994 directed by Roland Emmerich (Moonfall, Independence Day: Resurgence). The franchise was later expanded into multiple series. Gero was an executive producer on Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe, and a writer and original director behind Stargate SG-1, so when it comes to the remake it will be under the guidance of a Stargate veteran.
When it comes to Gero’s qualifications for the series, Variety issued this statement, “twenty years ago, my first job in television was as a story editor on ‘Stargate: Atlantis,’ I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series, ‘Stargate’ taught me everything about making television it’s written in my DNA. I’m beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase. For those who’ve kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith this ones for you. And for those that are new to our world I promise you’re in for something extraordinary.”
According to Deadline, Gero will not take on this remake alone, along with him will be executive producers Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Flash) and Tory Tunnell (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Novocaine). Dean Devlin (The Librarians: The Next Chapter, Leverage: Redemption Aftershow) and Emmerich, the duo behind the 1994 Stargate film will also chip in, followed by consulting producers Brad Wright (Travelers, Stargate Universe) and Joe Mallozzi (Stargate Universe, Stargate: Atlantis).
There has been no release date for the new series, so we’ll have to wait for Amazon to drop a trailer in the meantime.
