Amazon has ordered Sarah Streicher’s young adult drama The Wilds to series, according to Variety. The Wilds is based on Lauren Olivers’ book of the same name and follows a group of teenage girls from different backgrounds, who after a plane crash, find themselves stranded on a deserted island. The series explores the struggles of these young girls and illustrates what it is really like to grow up female in today’s society. Sarah Streicher, who served as a staff writer for the Netflix-Marvel series Daredevil, serves as writer and executive producer.
“Coming of age is not for the faint of heart,” said Streicher. “It can take as much grit and fire to survive our teenage years as it would to survive, say, on a deserted island. The Wilds grew from that notion, and it’s afforded me an opportunity to explore teenage-hood in all of its perils, joys, and heartbreaks. I’m beyond thrilled that it’s found a home at Amazon,” Streicher added.
The show is a co-production between ABC Signature Studios (part of Disney Television Studios) and Amazon Studios. Amy B. Harris serves as showrunner and executive producer. Streicher is in an “overall deal” with ABC Studios. “We are thrilled to share this exciting original vision with our global audience,” said the head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke. “We are proud to be the home for this authentically voiced, high stakes show brought to life by the talented Sarah Streicher, Amy Harris, and our ABC Signature Studios partners,” Salke added.
The other executive producers include Dylan Clark and Brian Williams of Dylan Clark Productions and Jamie Tarses’ Fanfare. Susanna Fogel executive produced and directed the pilot.
The series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories globally, Deadline reports.
