Amazon Studios has ordered an adult animated series, Undone. The show is being co-created by BoJack Horseman Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Kate Purdy (who recently was a WGA Award winner for BoJack), as well as, the studio, Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company. They have a a straight to series order for the animated show. Amazon does have experience with animation; however, those series targeted children. With Undone this will be Amazon’s first animated series that targets adults. The show’s lead voices will be Rosa Salazar (from the Maze Runner franchise) and Angelique Cabral (from Life in Pieces).
Salazar will voice the main character Alma, and Cabral will voice Alma’s younger sister. Once Alma gets into a near fatal car accident, she starts to have a new connection with time. With this ability she tries to find the truth surrounding her father’s death. Undone is described as a dramedy that explores the elastic nature of reality through Alma (its central character).
Sharon Yguado, head of scripted series at Amazon Studios said, “We’re delighted to greenlight our first animated half-hour series. Kate and Raphael are dynamic and creative forces, and I know they will create an amazing series for us. I can’t wait for our customers to see it in 2019.”
Purdy said, “We are grateful to Amazon Studios for the opportunity to tell Alma’s story and follow her as she seeks to find a deeper meaning to her existence.”
Bob-Waksberg also added, “Hisko’s beautiful artwork and masterful use of light and color will create a look never seen before on a television show that will make audiences lose their minds.”
As of right now Undone is in pre-production and is expected to be available in 2019.
