Improv comedy is coming to our screens in full swing. According to Deadline, Amazon MGM studios have ordered a new pilot for a series titled DINKs that will be in the style of improvisational multi-cam comedy. The series will star and be produced by June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie) and Paul Scheer (The League), who are married both in the new series and in real life.
DINKs, an acronym for the newly popular phrase, “Dual Income No Kids”, will center around the comedic couple who decide that in lieu of not having children, in order to occupy their time they decide to renovate their own dream house, which may not start on the easiest note as the house is nothing short of a nightmare.
The pilot will be primarily in the style of improv, as both Raphael and Scheer have plenty of experience in the comedy form. This new series is also coming after the success of Amazon MGM’s Jury Duty, which also used improv as a vital part of the comedy that the show displayed. It has not been announced yet which streamer DINKs will end up on yet.
The series will also be written and executive produced by Marta Kauffman, who has previously worked with Raphael on the series Grace and Frankie. This also brings Kauffman back into the world of multi-camera comedy as she is famously co-creator of the widely popular sitcom Friends. She also created and wrote seven seasons of Grace and Frankie in addition to Friends.
Currently, Raphael and Scheer are co-hosts of the podcast How Did This Get Made with Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth, Brooklyn 99). The podcast is currently touring with its live show all over the country.
The pilot of DINKs will be directed by Alex Fernie, who has previously worked on Children’s Hospital and Reno 911!, and will be written by Kauffman and Hannah K.S. Canter, who has also worked on Grace and Frankie.
