The Amazon Freevee series High School will be coming to a close. According to Deadline, the coming-of-age drama TV series has been canceled and will not have a second season. The series, based on Tegan and Sara Quin’s novel, only had eight episodes airing in 2022.
According to Deadline, the series was produced by Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment. The series is about the journey that young teens go through during their adolescence and helps them find their own identity. The path on this journey is treacherous in this case, as the main character has to try to find individuality while also being a twin, a built-in mirror to your own sibling. The series captures the 90s grunge coming-of-age and rave culture and brings viewers into the story of the twin sisters who live right down the hall from each other.
The series starred Raily and Seazynn Gilliland. The two, known for their work on social media, specifically for content creation on the popular app TikTok, made their TV debut in High School starring as the younger, high school teen versions of series creators Tegan and Sara. The two were accompanied by guest stars such as Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) and Kyle Bornhiemer (Marriage Story). The two veteran actors played the parents name of the teen twins named Simone Bates and Patrick Twiley. The series only aired for eight episodes in October 2022 and has had no word on further production or season premieres.
The cast also had some other guest stars sprinkled around. It included actors Olivia Rouyre (Slotherhouse), Amanda Fix (Orphan Black: Echoes). Geena Meszaros (Under the Manner of Heaven), CJ Valleroy (NCIS: Los Angeles) and Nath Corddry (For All Mankind).
According to Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report and confirm High School’s cancellation.
