Neil Gaiman’s (The Sandman) second season of Good Omens has announced its full cast for the fantasy series at Amazon. Deadline confirms several returning stars, as well as new actors, will be joining David Tennant (Broadchurch) and Michael Sheen (Underworld) in the adaptation of Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s (Mort) novel.
New additions to the series include Dame Sian Phillips (Dune), Tim Downie (Paddington), Pete Firman (The Magicians), Andi Osho (Stay Close), and Alex Norton (Taggart) via Deadline. They will be accompanied by season one’s Derek Jacobi (Vicious), Mark Gatiss (Dracula), Steve Pemberton (The League of Gentlemen), Reece Shearsmith (Pyshcoville), and Niamh Walsh (Jamestown). Season two will not see the return of Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) or Frances McDormand (Nomadland).
Good Omens chronicles Tennant and Sheen as the hell-spawn demon, Crowley, and divine angel, Aziraphale, respectively. The two joined forces in the first season to thwart the impending Apocalypse. The six-episode second entry will be a brand new story, surpassing the original material from the book. Crowley and Aziraphale, now friends, will team up to solve a mystery amongst common Londoners.
“We are so thrilled that we were able to get so many fabulous actors to return to the Good Omens family,” Gaiman told Deadline. “Some of them are reprising roles, some of them are playing completely new characters. And we are just as thrilled by the people coming to the Good Omens team for the first time. We have an ensemble cast of astonishing talent, and seeing what they’re giving us is a daily treat. I can’t wait until the rest of the world gets that treat, too,” Gaiman said via Deadline.
The cast will also see the return of Doon Mackichan (Smack the Pony), Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow), Gloria Obianyo (Antony & Cleopatra), Shelley Conn (Mistresses), Maggie Service (Hyperdrive), Nina Sosanya (Screw), Liz Carr (Crip Tales), Quelin Sepulveda (The Other End), and Jon Hamm (Top Gun: Maverick).
According to Deadline, Gaiman will return to executive produce, write, and serve as co-showrunner along with executive producer and director, Douglas Mackinnon (Line of Duty). The series will see John Finnemore write along with Andy Nyman (Death at a Funeral), Jeremy Dyson (Killing Eve), Cat Clarke (Call My Agent).
“We are happily working our way through filming Good Omens 2 in Scotland and these new cast arrivals will only increase the pleasure of it all,” Mackinnon said via Deadline. “The remarkable Scottish crew are loving making the magic that is Good Omens and we can’t wait to share our stories with the world.”
Good Omens is produced by Amazon Studios, BBC Studios, Narrativa, and The Blank Corporation.
