Amazon Prime Video released the announcement that they will be developing a horror television series based on the film I Know What You Did Last Summer, according to Deadline. The horror film was released in 1997 and its screenplay was written by Kevin Williamson (Dawson’s Creek, Stalker) and directed by Jim Gillespie (Venom).
This television series will be written by Sara Goodman (Preacher, Gossip Girl) and derives from the film’s source material, a novel by Lois Duncan under the same name. Currently, the series will be executive produced by Goodman and Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum) and will include Neal Moritz’s (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Prison Break) Original Film company, Sony Pictures, Amazon Studios on board the horror young adult adaptation series.
I Know What You Did Last Summer is a slasher film that starred Jennifer Love Hewitt (Can’t Hardly Wait), Ryan Phillippe (Crash, Shooter), Freddie Prinze Jr. (She’s All That, Scooby-Doo), and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scooby-Doo). The slasher film centered on a group of four friends that are pursued by a killer following the one year anniversary of the group accidentally killing a man with their car. The television adaptation will follow the same narrative, but repackage it as a young adult series. Currently, there is no announced cast for the upcoming horror program for Amazon.
Albert Cheng, the COO and Co-Head of Television for Amazon Studios, commented on the acquisition and development of the horror series. The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” said Cheng via Deadline. At the moment, there is no announced date for production nor an anticipated premiere date.
