Fans everywhere have been on the edge of their seats waiting for the revival of hit dramedy Gilmore Girls on Netflix. The revival of Gilmore Girls was announced back in January, and according to Deadline, will consist of four 90-minute episodes and will be titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. In anticipation of the new series, Netflix announced today that the original seven seasons of Gilmore Girls will be available for streaming worldwide starting July 1st. The announcement was made by star Lauren Graham via the video below:
Gilmore Girls is a family dramedy that follows Lorelai Gilmore, a single mother to precocious teen Rory Gilmore, who live in the small, tight-knit town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The original series of Gilmore Girls ran from 2000-2007 on the WB and then CW, and starred Graham, Alexis Bledel, Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson and Kelly Bishop. The show has been a long-time fan favorite, though it was not initially a ratings success. According to Deadline, the show eventually grew in popularity, so that it was able to compete with ratings juggernaut, Friends. The seven seasons of Gilmore Girls that total 153 episode, but starting July 1, all of those episodes will also be available for international streaming. Gilmore Girls won an Emmy in 2004 for Best Makeup and won an AFI Award for TV Program of the Year. Also, Lauren Graham was nominated for a SAG award twice for her performance as Lorelai Gilmore.
The revival series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, will premiere sometime this fall, according to Deadline. Most of the original cast is returning, including Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena, Sean Gunn, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry, Liza Weil, Jared Padalecki and Yanic Truesdale. According to Deadline, in the new season, each episode will take place in a different season, all in the same calendar year.
In April, Deadline featured several promotional photos from the revival:
Gilmore Girls isn’t the first hotly-anticipated revival of a beloved show. Netflix has recently had success with Fuller House, it’s revival of Full House centered around the now-grown kids from the original show. We are excited to see if Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will have a similar success story!
