According to Comicbook.com, the Hulu science fiction series Alien: Earth will feature new threats other than the xeromorphs. Series creator Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo) revealed new details about the story and its threats during a Comic-Con interview.
When asked by Comicbook.com if Alien: Earth would have monsters more terrifying than the xenomorph, Hawley said, “That depends on what grosses you out the most. I think we’re giving them a run for their money, certainly. But their value is added. They are scary in the egg stage, the facehugger stage, and the chest burster stage. They got something for everyone, those xenomorphs.”
Alien: Earth brings the science-fiction horror film series of the same name to Earth for the first time. As Comicbook.com reports, the series follows a Weyland-Yutani vessel crashing on Earth, releasing a threatening cargo that must be dealt with. The series is set to chronicle the first instance of an Alien landing on Earth, and, as Hawley mentions, the series will feature fresh terrors.
Beyond the horror the series is known for, viewers will get a new look at the universe of Alien. Per Comicbook.com, the series will take place in the year 2120, and the world is governed by five megacorporations: Lynch, Prodigy, Dynamic, Threshold, and Weyland-Yutani. Prodigy City, controlled by the corporation of the same name, experiences the crash that kick-starts the plot.
The world of the series also deals with the interactions between synthetics, androids, and humans. Beyond this technology, the CEO of the Prodigy corporation accelerates the corporate competition when he develops humanoid robots that can be linked to human consciousness. The main character of the series is one of these robots, named Wendy, who has to work to address the new alien threat as the corporate conflict comes to a peak.
Hawley discussed introducing the Xenomorph to Earth with Comicbook.com: “You bring these creatures into our natural environment,” he said. “You introduce an apex predator to another balanced ecosystem. I’m really interested to see how that plays out. I think you saw it in the last trailer, the iconic shot of the Xenomorph in the cave system. You got a visceral response to it, to feel like now they’re here [on Earth].”
The series is set to premiere on August 12th on FX and Hulu.
