Alicia Vikander Stars as Mira in HBO’s New ‘Irma Vep’ Series

A new original Irma Vep series is in production at HBO and it will star Alicia Vikander (Ava, Ex Machina) as the lead role, according to Deadline. Irma Vep was a film by Olivier Assayus (Writer, Personal Shopper) that released in 1996. The plot will center around Vikander’s character Mira, an American actress who moves to France to star in a movie called Les Vampires as the lead role Irma Vep. Mira takes this daring chance after experiencing a breakup and some disappointing elements in her acting career. The limited series will be executive produced by Vikander and it will be based loosely on the 1996 feature.

As time goes on, Vikander’s character Mira struggles to distinguish herself from the character she plays in the French film Les Vampires. The drama will be set within the genre of a crime thriller and viewers will see how Mira’s actions shape her destiny in the show.

HBO’s executive Vice President Francesca Orsi released a statement regarding her excitement about the new series. “Olivier is a master at weaving unique narratives imbued with levity and drama and Alicia is one of the most versatile, celebrated actors of our time. They have an undeniable, distinct vision for the reimagining of Olivier’s cult classic film, and we can’t wait to tell it with them,” Francesca stated according to Deadline.

Vikander also expressed her exhilaration for the chance to work on this original series with Assayus. “I am very excited for us to work together, and to be a part of the expanded universe of his superb cult classic, Irma Vep,” Vikander stated as reported by Deadline.

With another original series in the works at HBO, it seems like subscribers will have a lot of content to look forward to. Fans of the crime-drama and thriller genre should tune in to catch this series and witness for themselves what Vikander brings to the small screen.
