Alexis Bledel, fresh off the success of the revived Gilmore Girls, has decided to emerge herself back into another streaming service.
While she played Rory on Netflix, Variety reports that Bledel has taken an acting role in the upcoming Hulu dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale.
The Handmaid’s Tale is based on the novel of the same name. In the new Hulu series, audiences can see stars like Elisabeth Moss, Samira Wiley, and Joseph Fiennes in a post-apocalyptic society. Moss stars in The Handmaid’s Tale as Offred, who is forced to repopulate the male-dominated location of Gilead. Bledel’s character, Ofglen, is another handmaid, with a seemingly submissive personality but a penchant for rebellion. She is expected to recur throughout the season.
The Handmaid’s Tale is helmed by Bruce Miller, who created, wrote, and executive produces the series. It was also greenlit for a straight-to-series order back in April of 2016, guaranteeing that we will see quite a bit of this new iteration of the acclaimed dystopia.
Interestingly enough, Variety also points out that this may affect the future of Gilmore Girls, should another season of the show come up. While there are no official talks to continue the revived series as of yet, Bledel’s schedule is not likely to become an issue, since The Handmaid’s Tale is already underway in Toronto.
