Alan Arkin (Argo) will not be in the third season of Netflix’s The Kominsky Method, according to Deadline. This will be the final season of the show.
The Kominksy Method was created by Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory) and is a Golden Globe-winning series. The show won Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2019 and Michael Douglas won a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Television Series or Musical. Arkin’s decision to not return was made a while ago when he indicated he would not continue after season 2. The departure of his character, Norman Newlander, was not reflected in the finale of the season because it had not yet been decided if the show would be given a third season. Season three will address Arkin’s departure and Norman will be written off.
Arkin’s decision to leave the show happened before the coronavirus pandemic upended the industry. The third season of the show was announced in July and included a list of the series’ EP’s but didn’t mention any returning cast members.
The Kominsky Method followed Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas), an aged-out actor who decided to become an acting coach, and his agent friend Norman Newlander. Season two had the two friends navigating through their old age in Los Angeles.
Arkin was nominated for two Emmy’s and two Golden Globe’s for his work on the show.
Douglas (Basic Instinct) posted on Instagram to congratulate his colleagues on their Emmy nominations.
