According to Deadline, This Way Up will soon be underway with the help of British broadcaster Channel 4 and Hulu. Deadline states that Aisling Bea (Living With Yourself) was working on writing the new season during COVID-19 lockdown with the cast eager to be back on set.
“Everyone is very keen to make some more of it,” cast member Tobias Menzies (The Crown) said during an interview with Deadline. “Hopefully, that’s one of the things we can do when we work out how to film again.”
Bea started her breakout with roles on the Netflix comedy-drama Living With Yourself and This Way Up. The series first season premiered in 2019 and stars Aine (Bea) as she attempts to get her life back on track after some mental struggles become prevalent. The series also stars Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) as Aine’s sister Shona, and Menzies as her love interest, Richard; along with Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) and Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show).
The first season was produced by Merman, Horgan and Clelia Mountford’s company, and directed by Alex Winckler. The series was nominated for two awards in 2020, including a BAFTA for Breakthrough Talent for Bea.
There is no word yet for when the second season will be released.
