Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Trailer Is Out of this World

When we left our heroes at the end of Season 4, their diner-dinner was interrupted by unknown kidnappers who whisked the group to outer space. S.W.O.R.D. anyone? The Brood? With the season premiere approaching on December 1, vague explanations and theories commence!

Two trailer-segments were debuted during Friday night’s season (series?) finale of The Inhumans. The first 30-second spot confirmed fears our favorite crew was lost in space, but now we know it’s been for roughly 4 years. The second and longer clip introduced actor Jeff Ward’s new scavenger character, Deke. It also featured several snippets of the Kree people with an assumption they will play a pretty significant role in the Season 5 action. Highlights of our heroes in action includes May (Ming-Na Wen) exercising her piloting skills in a spaceship and Mack (Henry Simmons) comically (and legitimately) expressing his concerns about outer space.

The reappearance of the Kree and S.H.I.E.L.D. taking to space in the next season leads to speculation the show may be connecting the MCU dots to bring Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) back to the movie series. There has never been confirmation whether ANY of the Marvel television shows would EVER connect to the movies but one can hope.

During New York Comic Con back in October, attendees got a 20-minute preview of the first episode for S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5. According to reports, the main focus was on a man who sheds his skin, assumes a new identity, and proceeds to oversee abduction of the crew as seen at the end of Season 4. Coulson is shown next questioning the where, what, and how of their situation but gets sucked away before hearing any answers. Long story, short, the preview alludes that the crew needs to save humanity.

Season 5 is bringing some new characters to the S.H.I.E.L.D. mismatched family. According to Den of Geek, Deke is one of 4 new members to join the cast. Tess is the optimistic ingénue portrayed by Eve Harlow (The 100). Flint (Coy Stewart) is a kid educated in the school of hard knocks who needs to prove his tough side. The new membership is rounded out by Pruitt Taylor Vince’s character, Grill, who does not appear to be such a nice dude.

DoG also mentioned the character of Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) may return after leaving in Season 3 for a spinoff that never happened. Yo-Yo Rodriguez (Natalia Cordonva-Buckely) gets promoted in Season 5 to a major character after proving her worth to the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. The FitzSimmons pairing storyline may take a backburner this season considering the whole space problem  facing the crew.

If you have not had a chance to catch the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 trailer, take a quick minute to watch it now. Tune in to see Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen and the rest of our favorite Marvel TV peeps for the two-hour season premiere December 1 on ABC.
