Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to return with its fifth season on ABC, TV Line reported. On Saturday, ABC announced that the series would return with a two-hour season premiere on Friday, Dec. 1.
“We’re so proud of the way that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has grown creatively every season. The series is a top performer for us especially in delayed viewing where we see almost triple-digit increases. Season five is their strongest season yet, and we can’t wait for the fans to see it. We feel that the move to Friday, creating a ‘genre-night’ on ABC, appeals to the show’s loyal fan base,” Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment said at New York Comic Con.
Even though there is little detail about the upcoming season, the cast urged the fans to be very excited of what’s to come.
Actress Ming-Na Wen, who plays Agent Melinda May, explained at a fan event, “You will be very, very impressed [by the premiere]. There’s a lot of action,” according to TV Line.
Along with Ming-Na Wen, Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson), Elizabeth Henstridge (Agent Jemma Simmons), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez), Iain De Caestecker (Agent Leo Fitz), and Henry Simmons (Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie) are all set to return in this next season, Deadline reported.
Other characters set to return are Nick Blood, who plays Lance Hunter, and Jeff Ward, who picked up a “recurring mystery role.”
Since the last season showed Agent Coulson aboard a ship to space, Clark Gregg explained, “Now we’re in space. We don’t know where we are. We don’t know who we’re up against. Although, I suspect Marvel fans will see some characters that they recognize,” according to Syfy Wire.
It sounds like the fans have a lot to look forward to this season.
After the premiere on Dec.1 at 8/7c, the Marvel series will return to its regular time slot at 9/8c on Dec. 8.
