A&E’s ‘Born This Way,’ the Emmy-Winning Docuseries has been Renewed for a Third Season

A&E’s recently announced that its popular docuseries Born this Way has been renewed for a third season. The show centers on seven adults with Down syndrome who become close friends and follow their dreams as they navigate through their life. The series recently received the 2016 Emmy Award for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Series. The third season of Born This Way will feature 10 one-hour episodes.

Elaine Frontain Bryant, the executive vice president and head of programming for A&E made the announcement and stated “Born This Way is a shining example of what the entertainment business needs more of – powerful, thought-provoking storytelling with a greater purpose,” said Frontain Bryant. “It was incredibly rewarding to see the show recognized with the Emmy Award for giving a platform to the extraordinary abilities and wisdom of the cast and their families.”

Born This Way is currently on its second season and the young adults on the show challenge the misconceptions some people have on individuals with Down syndrome.

For example, in the current season, Cristina prepares for a ballroom dance competition and showcases that she can dance just as good as anyone else if not better! She accomplishes this by putting in the work and practicing often with her dance coach Rumen. And Megan continues to run her clothing business with her mother (Megology) and also interviews for a position with Best Buddies International. Depending on the outcome of the interview, Megan will decide if she will be officially moving out to L.A. Then there’s John who is contacted by a record label who helped launch the careers of many successful rappers. On the show, John becomes inspired by his late sister and dedicates a heartwarming song to her and his family.

Earlier this year, Born This Way was chosen as one of six honorees for the 2016 Television Academy Honors. This award recognizes television shows that educate and inspire others. Stay tuned for news about the upcoming season!
