A new show from the creator of Adventure Time, Pendleton Ward, is coming to Netflix. It is a new adult animated series called The Midnight Gospel. The series is going to be co created by comedian and podcaster Duncan Trussell.
The series is going to follow Clancy, “a spacecaster with a malfunctioning multiverse simulator who leaves the comfort of his home to interview beings living in dying worlds,” according to Netflix.
The show is going to be eight episodes long and is “set in a fantastical universe using interview clips from Duncan Trussell’s podcast, Duncan Trussell Family Hour.
Titmouse, the animation production company that created Netflix’s Big Mouth, will be producing The Midnight Gospel, which is set to stream in 2020.
Netflix has created many adult animated series. Previously it has released Big Mouth, BoJack Horseman, and Disenchantment. So The Midnight Gospel will be streaming with many other adult cartoons.
Ward is best known for creating the classic Emmy Winning Cartoon Network animated series Adventure Time, starring Finn The Dog and Jake The Human in The land of Ooo, which ran for 10 seasons and 283 episodes on Cartoon Network from 2010 – 2018. Four new hour long adventure time specials are coming to HBO with Adventure Time: Distant Lands. Ward also created a similar online web series called Bravest Warriors that ran for four seasons.
Pendleton Ward Quit Adventure Time halfway through its years on CN. When asked about quiting Adventure Time he said “Dealing with people every day wears on you. To spend that extra energy and time you don’t have, to make something that’s worth making, to make it awesome, wears you out. It’s a beast of a show. And the more popular it gets, the more the ancillary things – like the merchandise and games and everything – keep getting bigger. For me, having quality of life outweighed the need to control this project and make it great all the time.”
