Adult Swim has confirmed when its surreal, absurdist talk show The Eric Andre Show will return, Entertainment Weekly confirmed today. The fifth season will officially debut on October 25th, the first new season since 2016.
The Eric Andre Show is hosted by Eric Andre (Disenchanted, Don’t Trust the B- in Apartment 23) and co-hosted by Hannibal Buress (Tag, Spider-Man: Homecoming). The show satirizes late-night talk shows of the 1990s, with Andre playing a heightened version of himself in the style of Jay Leno or Conan O’Brien. He performs bizarre, meandering monologues that Buress often nonchalantly insults. In interviews, they ask guest stars startling questions and perform strange skits throughout. For this upcoming fifth season, Judy Greer (Arrested Development), NBA Player Blake Griffin, Dermot Mulroney (The Purge), figure skater Adam Rippon, and have been announced as guest stars.
Alongside the talk show segments, Andre and Buress perform multiple skits throughout the episode. These take place outside the talk show set, often on the streets of New York City. In pictures published by Entertainment Weekly, Andre holds a flask as a public transit worker on a subway train and as a bloodied window wiper on a busy street. Entertainment Weekly described that the fifth season will feature “tortured celebrities, ethically complex street pranks, and severely injured rappers.”
As a part of production for this season, Andre underwent a radical, physical transformation. He described his transformation to Entertainment Weekly last November: “To get ready for it, I waxed my entire body, got over 200 pounds, and slept in a tanning bed.” Andre promises the return of fan-favorite skits and all-new bizarre ones, including an image of him dressed as a park bench.
The fifth season of The Eric Andre Show will premiere on Sunday, October 25th at midnight. The rest of the series is available to stream on HBO Max.
