Cancelled after one brief season on Netflix in 2019, Adult Swim gave the animated series Tuca & Bertie a second life on their network, one they now plan to extend into a third season. Variety further reported that the network has secured international rights for Tuca & Bertie, meaning the series’ second and third season will now become available to audiences globally on Adult Swim’s platforms.

Created and executive produced by Lisa Hanawalt (BoJack Horseman), Tuca & Bertie carved a unique space for itself as a story centered on female friendship in the realm of adult animation. Furthering its appeal, the series boasts comedians Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, Night School) as Tuca and Ali Wong (Ali Wong: Baby Cobra, Always Be My Maybe) as Bertie, who likewise serve as executive producers on the series. Netflix’s abrupt 2019 cancellation of Tuca & Bertie led to an outcry from fans and ultimately landed the series on Adult Swim.
Season two of Tuca & Bertie began to air on Adult Swim in June and has proven a successful acquisition for the network thus far. The Hollywood Reporter provided the viewership numbers for the program, citing that Tuca & Bertie has drawn an increase in both female and young adult audiences at Adult Swim. The Hollywood Reporter continued that “[Tuca & Bertie] also consistently wins its slot (excluding sports) among teens, adults 18-24 and 18-34 and several key male demographics.”
Tuca & Bertie’s friendship and antics will conclude in season two’s final episodes, airing August 8 and 15, respectively. Additional residences of Bird Town, who fill the titular protagonist’s life with color and conflict, include Steven Yeun (Minari, Invincible), Nicole Byer (Nailed It! Loosely Exactly Nicole), Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Dispatches From Elsewhere), Reggie Watts (The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedy Bang! Bang!), John Early (Search Party, Other People), Taraji P. Henson (Empire, Hidden Figures), Sasheer Zamata (Woke, Saturday Night Live), Jennifer Lewis (The Princess and the Frog, Black-ish), Adam Conover (Adam Ruins Everything) and Pamela Adlon (Better Things). Fans of the series can rest easy knowing that, once season two ends, Tuca, Bertie and the Bird Town crew will all be returning for a definite third season on Adult Swim.
