Get excited! Fans of the critically acclaimed sci-fi laugh fest known as Rick and Morty can finally watch the much anticipated Season 4 trailer below. The series’ third season concluded back in 2017 due to long gestating contract negotiation between the series creators, Dan Harmon and Justin Rolaind, and Adult Swim, but has now finally been given the green light by the network. The announcement was also proceeded by the launch of a series themed website during the series hiatus.
Fans have waited eagerly and patiently for the news, using social media as an outlet to support the return of the show— mentions of Pickle Rick’s signature “wubba lubba dub dub!” line and other one liners from the series populated several fans’ feeds. A clip featured during San Diego Comic-Con also fueled the anticipation, when it showed Morty and his father harassing Glootie, an alien app developer voiced by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.
The new trailer highlights Rick and Morty carrying out their usual wacky inter-dimensional adventures, showing floating hover chairs, beefy alien security guards, a showdown between Summer and Beth, and the return of Mr. Poopybutthole. The series is set to return to Adult Swim on November 10th at 11:30pm, which is just in time for the Fall holidays. Co-creator Justin Roiland also assured fans that the gaps between seasons won’t be as long going forward.
“We‘re super excited that, for the first time ever, we’re locked in, we know what the future is, we have job security,” Roiland commented. ”Harmon is in great spirits, we have a great writer’s room. We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster. We’re not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We’re going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It’s going to be really cool.”
Late last year, Roiland tweeted drawing featuring the titular characters announcing Adult Swim ordered a total of 70 new episodes, meaning an average of seven or so seasons will feature about 10-episodes each based on the series previous production history. However, the upcoming fourth season will feature only five unfortunately, but with the potential for a grand total of more than 100 episodes the series can be posited for syndication.
