Cable channel Adult Swim has officially issued a series order for live-action comedy, Three Busy Debras. The quarter-hour show will follow the surreal shenanigans of three supposedly deranged housewives, all named Debra, in the town of Lemoncurd, Connecticut.
Although the series’ pilot was ordered by Adult Swim a year ago, it has been greenlit for production this year. Originating as a web series created by a trio of comediennes (Mitra Jouhari, Sandy Honig, and Alyssa Stonoha), the show was later seen by actress Amy Poehler, who then offered to help the group get picked up.
After the series initial order, Jouhari gushed, “Getting to do the Three Busy Debras pilot was so special — I have been excited and proud of every job but getting to turn something that I wrote with two of my best friends into a television show was very surreal and exciting.”
Honig is an actress and producer, known for 2019’s Rebel Wilson helmed comedy Isn’t It Romantic, and 2015’s The Special Without Brett Davis. While Stonoha, formerly worked with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre before performing on Lloyd Night and The Chris Gethard Show.
Jouhari, the more prolific of the three, has been a writer on The President’s Show, High Maintenance, Big Mouth, and Miracle Workers. She was also nominated for a WGA Award for her work on The President’s Show. Acting credits include: Friends from College, Broad City, The Big Sick, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
The trio will star and serve as executive producers along with director Anna Dokoza . Poehler and Kim Lessing also executive produce through Paper Kite Production, which is known for Netflix’s Russian Doll, Comedy Central’s Broad City, and NBC’s I Feel Bad.
