According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adult Swim has officially announced the premiere date for the third season of the adult animated series Smiling Friends, along with a first-look image. The network revealed that the third instalment of the series will be airing on the fifth of October. Co-created by Michael Cusack (YOLO, Damo and Darren) and Zach Hadel (SleepyCast, Oney Plays), Smiling Friends follow a company dedicated to making people happy, with every episode featuring a new adventure and a new client.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the third season of the series will follow Pim, Charlie, Flint and the rest of the gang in their quest to spread happiness. The new batch of episodes promises to include Mr. Frog sprinting directly at the camera, the friends collecting spirit gems and a pivotal confrontation with an ancient witch.

“We love shows that make you smile and go ‘haha’ — and that’s what you’ll get with Smiling Friends and Haha, You Clowns. It’s right there in the titles,” said Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen (Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar) in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. “While totally different from each other, these two shows are united in that they’re hilarious, gently unnerving and sometimes even profound.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, during a recent interview with them, Cusack and Hadel promised a memorable return for Mr. Frog and were optimistic about the creative freedom that the two-season pickup would allow.

“It means you don’t have to make the same episode that the engine of the show relies on, which is the smiling friends go out and help a depressed character,” said Cusack of the pickup via The Hollywood Reporter. “Just like the shows we love and grew up with, the best part is, now we can make a whole episode about a secondary character and zoom in on them more and explore the town.”
